Safeguarding

At Crofton Academy, the safety and wellbeing of every pupil is our highest priority. We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils in our care. We will always work in the best interest of the child.

Our first responsibility is to keep every child safe, healthy, and happy. We aim to:

Protect pupils from maltreatment or neglect
Prevent the impairment of their physical or mental health or development
Ensure they grow up in safe, supportive circumstances
Take action to enable all pupils to achieve the best possible outcomes

We believe safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. All staff are trained, vigilant, and dedicated to creating a culture where pupils feel safe, valued, and supported. We have clear and robust policies and procedures in place to identify and respond swiftly to any concerns. Every member of staff receives regular safeguarding training, and pupils know there are trusted adults they can speak to at any time.

Working Together to Keep Children Safe

We work closely with parents, carers, and external partners, including the Wakefield & District Safeguarding Children’s Board, to provide early help and coordinated support when needed. We also follow the annual statutory guidance set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education.

Wakefield Families Together brings local services into one place, making it easier for families to access help early. Whether you’re worried about attendance, mental health, family relationships, or other challenges, support is available through your child’s school, local Family Hub, or community setting.

How can you support your child’s safeguarding?

Raise concerns with the school if you are at all worried
Talk to the school if you need help or support
Let the school know if your child has a medical condition or SEND need
Let the school know if you have any court orders relating to the safety of your child
Let the school know if you have a change in circumstances, such as a house move, a new contact number, or a change of name or change in parental responsibility
Let the school know if your child is going to be absent and the reason why

If you are worried about your child, or another child at Crofton Academy, please feel confident to raise your concerns with one of our safeguarding team. You can do this by contacting the Academy here and asking for a safeguarding lead. There are some issues which we feel will be better supported by a Year Leader so there may be occasions where we share this information.
