We are a team of specialist support staff led by a manager who is a qualified teacher of the visually impaired. We provide specialist teaching and support to our pupils so that they can learn alongside their sighted peers. We work closely with the Academy and aim to include our pupils in every mainstream lesson where possible, withdrawing them only for specialist teaching where required. We strive to minimize barriers to learning and to enable children with a visual impairment to be as independent as possible. The resource caters for children with the most complex visual needs – accordingly, all children have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHC Plan).

We work closely with the Academy staff plus several other agencies to plan a coordinated approach to ensure needs are met. These include Optometrists, Ophthalmologists, Low Vision Services, Guide Dogs UK, RNIB, Social Care, Educational Psychology, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists.
